Robert Kaplan is the author of seven highly acclaimed books on travel and international affairs, including "Balkan Ghosts," "The Arabists," "The Ends of the Earth" and "The Coming Anarchy." His most recent book, "Eastward to Tartary," takes readers on a geopolitical and economic tour of the Balkans, the Middle East and the Caucasus. 

Mr. Kaplan is also a provocative essayist, having published numerous cover stories in The Atlantic Monthly (where he has been a correspondent), as well as articles in Forbes, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. He is currently a senior fellow at the New America Foundation.
